1st Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition London in collaboration with the London Music Society will be held online.

SEASON
Competition rules
- The competition is open to any Nationality, age limit 40 years old.
- Applicants must send a CV, a copy of their Passport or ID, video(s) link and proof of payment at joachim.violin.competition@gmail.com
- Check the video application guidance below.
- Application deadline 31 July 2023. Winners will be announced by 6 August 2023.
- In the application, specify in order of preference from the repertoire list, one or more concertos/pieces you would like to perform if you will be selected as the winner.
- You can specify or change which concertos/pieces you would like to perform from the list even after you have submitted your application but no later than 31 July 2023.
- If you wish to perform a different concert/piece which is not on the list, please send a request at joachim.violin.competition@gmail.com
Video application guidance
- The video or videos total length is recommended a minimum of 10 mins and a maximum of around 45 mins.
- Video(s) are recommended to include contrast in the fast and slow movements or different music styles and periods.
- Applicants can send one video or multiple videos.
- Only video links will be accepted (video links with a password will also be accepted). Videos that need to be downloaded will not be accepted.
The applicant video(s) can feature any repertoire, composer or period. You can choose one of the 3 options below or a mix of the 3. You can choose one of the 3 options below or a mix of the 3.
1. Solo unaccompanied violin; for example; suites, partitas, sonatas,
caprices, preludes etc.
2. Violin and piano; for example; sonatas, dances, romances, suites,
concertos etc.
3. Violin and orchestra or violin and small ensemble.
Prizes & opportunites
- 1st prize winner will receive £1000 (British pounds) and an opportunity to perform as an invited soloist with the London City Philharmonic in their 2023/2024 season.
- The 1st prize winner will perform on 6 October 2023 and they will have the option to choose which concert/piece they want to perform in London from the repertoire list below.
- Music agents will be invited to the concert, this could be a great opportunity for soloists to be noticed and maybe get signed by an agent.
- 2nd prize is £500 (British pounds) plus an official diploma.
- 3rd prize is £400 (British pounds) plus an official diploma.
- Semi-finalists will receive an official diploma.
- 2nd, and 3rd prize winners and semi-finalists might have an opportunity to be invited as soloists to perform with the London City Philharmonic during the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 seasons.
